Advocating for parents is the second pillar of our work. We will advocate in the following ways:

General Education

We will use our website and social media presence to provide general education and information relating to SHHIPs core working areas and appropriate adjacent topics.

Speaking Engagements

We will actively seek opportunities to speak publicly about the issues our clients face and the opportunities to make improvements in treatments and facilities.

Media Relations

Using Andrew’s media relations background and skill sets, we will actively pursue opportunities to establish ourselves as a steady and trustworthy authority on the challenges parents of children with complex special needs face and the improvements needed of our healthcare system. We will seek out both proactive and reactive opportunities.

Advocacy Training

We will equip parents on how to advocate for themselves and for their children through one-on-one conversations, general education resources and specifically designed courses. Topics include documentation, basic understanding of health care systems, parents’ rights and public records.

Public Advocacy Work

Raising awareness of and working toward change in our government and healthcare systems is a key driving factor behind the creation of SHHIP. We will actively look for opportunities to speak out about the challenges parents face through written comments, social media campaigns, public hearings and public comment periods.
