“I always thought I was the only parent who ever had to experience this.”
Every Parent Who Has Ever Dealt With a Child’s Mental Health
You are not alone. There are many who have walked this before you. We exist to support you and to care for you and your family to the best of our abilities. This world is very different than navigating a physical illness. We’ll do our best to empower you to make the best choices for your child and your family.
As we launch, services may be limited as we work to build and train our volunteer pool. We are currently only providing in-person services within a 50-mile radius of Raleigh, NC.
Note: Our support is relational, practical and experience-based. It cannot be construed as medical or legal advice, nor is our support a substitute for counseling.
Networking
Sometimes, the most important support is listening and talking to someone who has been there. We will work to find you a parent that can share their story. They can help you navigate the ins and outs of the mental healthcare system.
Intake
Going to the emergency room with a child in crisis can be overwhelming. When possible, we will provide a volunteer to meet you and sit with you during the intake process (per facility rules). These support persons can take notes, help decipher terminology and just provide presence during hard times.
Home Response
Home responders will provide a second set of eyes, ears and hands to help you get through some of the most difficult parts of daily life. These are in addition to, not a substitute for, crisis therapists that you may already have.
Rapid Response
A child in crisis may exhibit extreme behaviors. Those episodes may result in damage or destruction to your home. Rapid response volunteers stand in the gap and help with handyman services, such as repairing walls, cleaning up after destructive behavior and helping to coordinate meals and errand services.
Transportation Services
One of the major gaps in the mental health system is transporting children needing psychiatric care to/from facilities and appointments. Our volunteers will accompany and support parents as they perform these tasks to provide a level of safety and support during these difficult transitions.
Travel and Accommodation Support
As finances permit, we will be able to assist with gas, hotels and other accommodations support to assist parents of children in residential treatment facilities to visit. Right now, we are working through requests on a case-by-case basis as we work to establish sustainable policies regarding support.
